Does the USA still follow the spirits of the poem?

I think that the USA does not follow the spirit of the poem because most people can be very ignorant when it comes to immigration. Sometimes, immigrants are treated much differently than those who were born in USA. They are even sometimes kicked out of the country... One of the main reasons why people immigrate to the USA is for a better life and to get an education. Immigrants are willing to do any job that people born here wouldn't do. The USA should be thankful for people like that, but they're not.
