I think it still does and it does not. The poem shows how accepting America is to anyone from anywhere around the world. I do still think America accepts everyone, but there are still laws that make some immigrants illegal and it is hard for people to become citizens or live here legally. Even though the laws restrict some people from living here, without them there would be overpopulation. This country still keeps the spirit of the poem, but it must also go against it in order to control the population. It also goes against the spirit of the poem because some people treat immigrants differently than people born in the United States with racism and stereotypes.
